Overall, we had fun making our own perfume scents. However, there are problems for which I have to redact stars:
First, the packaging is lacking enough that one of the glass bottles was broken upon arrival. As can be seen in the pictures, there were 3 packaging peanuts added, which were not enough to protect the items inside, we tossed the green bottle and rinsed the droppers and remaining bottle in fear of glass shards. I hope that future packages are packed more secure.
Second, the instruction booklet was confusing enough that we had to look up instructions from other companies to understand what we needed to do. Examples include:
- The booklet explains what a carrier is, but does not mention when to add it: "Be sure to dilute to at least 50% with a carrier oil or alcohol". For that matter, this information is also not on the website!
- It tells us which notes go well together, yet the Autumn Kit we got only gave us Fruity Top notes and Earthy base notes, tones that supposedly do not match. Having the option to choose between at least 2 fragrance families would be nice!
- The website states "Strongest Parfum: 16-20% fragrance/essential oil : 80-84% carrier agent", yet the booklet gives you either the previous quote (technically correct, at least 50% does include 80% and higher, but it is misleading), or it has suggestion recipes.
- The math in the recipes does not add up! The booklet states that recipes are given in ratios in 100, but "Vibrant" adds 60 drops of fragrance to 50 drops of carrier (meaning that the carrier oil is actually 45% of the whole), and "Freshly-picked Flowers" adds only 30 drops of fragrance with 60 drops of carrier, as well as Fresh Dirt using 6.0 ml of a 9ml bottle! I know the intro text states "a (mad) scientist's creation", but if you give numbers, make sure they add up!
To summarize, the booklet should be reworked with a clear step-by-step instruction and ideally be tailored to the kit. I can imagine this is price-wise not always possible, but adding an extra leaflet for specific info to the kit would go a long way!
Nonetheless, my partner and I still enjoyed the experience, and with these fixes implemented we would be happy to order another kit in the future.
