HC4 is a great value proposition
The HC4 is an excellent choice if you want a compact and dependable 2‑bay NAS. Performance is outstanding, noise levels are minimal, and the overall value is hard to beat. With a Seagate IronWolf 8TB NAS drive and a 256GB SSD installed, I’m able to saturate the Gigabit network connection from either drive, which perfectly matches my current performance requirements.

HC4 excellent for Raid1
I installed two 1TB 2.5" (SATA 6Gb/s, 5400 RPM, 8MB Cache (Western Digital WD10SPCX) )HDDs. Set up as Raid 1. I let the HC4 do the Raid1 mirroring. It only took a few percent of the HC4 CPU as it was bringing in 2.1TB of data files. (Note I used separate RaspberryPi 4B to host the OwnCloud - the Pi showed about 50% to 75% to 80% CPU while bringing in the files over 1Gig ethernet). Note the Pi and HC4 were connected with 1Gig ethernet. In Owncloud selected External Storage so Pi can see HC4 with SMB. I ran the HC4 and the Pi to the same router (which had four 1Gig ports). Then my two laptops could do the OwnCloud backup through Wifi to the Wifi router(that also had the four 1Gig ethernet ports). It can back up 1GByte from Laptop through Wifi to router to Pi to HC4 in about 10 minutes. Very pleased with the result. Can drag a windows folder(that has folders under it) to the OwnCloud External storage icon and it does the backup. If it finds any duplicates(from previous backup) it lists those as a duplicates. Just check one box that says just keep the most recent and it will overlay the old files on the HC4 with the new ones.

Indispensable
I have been using an odroid hc4 as my main/only NAS for about 3 years now. Reliable, low power, does everything I need. Nearly perfect. (The flash-bypass boot button is less than convenient.) Recently updated to Ubuntu 24.04 from Hardkernel. This was actually a panic backup purchase. It turned out I had somehow** corrupted my boot SD card. The new unit checked out fine, so now I have a backup. As always, the Ameridroid response was fast and efficient. Nice to have someone I can count on in a crisis! **I really should set up a UPS.
