5⭐ warm, funny, sexy, and surprisingly emotional
What starts with irritation, bickering, and a whole lot of denial slowly turns into something warm, funny, sexy, and surprisingly emotional.
What worked so well for me was Leroy's journey. He doesn't suddenly understand everything about himself. He makes mistakes, gets things wrong, hurts people, doubts himself, and keeps discovering that what he thought he felt isn't always the whole truth. His self-discovery feels messy and frustrating at times, but also very human.
And then there's Fox. Calm, kind, patient, and somehow able to steady Leroy without losing himself in the process. Beneath that calm exterior is a man carrying his own heartbreak and insecurities after a painful divorce. I loved how caring and emotionally generous he was without ever feeling perfect.
But my favorite part was the chemistry between them. Once these two finally stop fighting their attraction, everything starts to sparkle with affection, teasing, banter, and sexy humor. There were several moments that genuinely made me laugh out loud.
I also loved the community around them. The friendships, family relationships, shared history, and the beautiful New Zealand setting made Painted Bay feel like a place I never wanted to leave.
By the end, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to Leroy, Fox, or Painted Bay
