Chain Waxing System

Nice DIY bike upgrade

Waxed my first chain over the weekend. I used Secret Chain Blend plus Speed Chip. Took longer than I expected to melt the base and chip but once it was fully melted, the act of waxing the chain was quite simple and easy to do. I think the key will be to have at least two chains that I can rotate onto my bike, with one always waxed and ready to go on when the other chain is ready for a rewax.

I've been watching the wax trend for years now. I "dipped" my toe in it with a ceramic speed product and liked the way my bike rode with it. But it required constantly adding more product and was quite a mess as it built up in the pulleys. I figured I'd bite the bullet and go to dipped wax after talking to a good friend that uses the silca system. He told me he does 3 chains at a time so it doesn't require as much time to swap out a fresh chain when he needs it. After getting the Silca products, I spent an hour probably over watching the videos and checking out the product. It was actually super easy. I don't have a lot of workbench space in my garage, so I actually mounted the red hanging device to a stud in the wall. The pot sits nicely on it. I waxed the chain on my bike and also a new one that hasn't been used. I'll probably get a few more chains so I'm ready to go like my buddy did. I love silca products. Just like everything else I've bought from them, this is top notch quality and has lots of the little details figured out. Very happy with the purchase.

Overall, the experience using this system was great! It is easy to use, and the YouTube channel was very helpful to follow. However, the manual could be improved by using step-by-step, bullet-point instructions—specifically regarding the temperature settings, duration, and rewaxing process. I’ve already waxed two sets of my chains, and riding with them feels amazing. I did face one small quality control issue: one of the holes on the chain waxing stand wasn't threaded, so I had to re-thread it myself.
